4Less expensive
By Asiaken
Arrived from China. Casing color is black and has no panic button. Removed flip key by removing roll pin and inserted laser cut key from broken shell. Don't forget to remove and install fob from old shell.

4MKIV jetta - needs slight modification but very nice!
By steve
I have a 2001 jetta (MKIV) with the oval style buttons... this product will need to be modified for it to work. You will need your entire OLD keyfob with all the parts/components intact. The reason it has to be modified is that the battery tray is too big and :

a) it will interfere with closing the case
b) the new battery tray has its contact "fingers" in the wrong orientation and it will not line up with the circuit card "pad"
c) the new shell looks like it should use 2020 batteries - but dont do this use 2016's

Here is the instructions to make the mod (easy and much cheaper that $85+ new fob):

1) remove the the pill shaped rfid (install in new top piece)

2) remove metal battery tray from OLD keyfob & KEEP

3) remove metal battery tray from NEW keyfob & throw away

4) trim the plastic battery tray area in new fob so you can install - the metal battery tray from the OLD keyfob

5) trim more of the new keyfob battery tray area so the - plastic tray retainer does not interfere/hit with the IC chip on the OLD circuit card.

6) install OLD circuit card into NEW keyfob shell - smash down retaining posts onto OLD IC circuit, then use small superglue on top of retaining posts

7) cut off the contact "fingers" of the OLD metal battery that originally made contact with the flat contact area on the IC chip

8) using a soldering iron and small piece of small wire (1" or so) - solder one end to the OLD battery tray where the fingers were.

9) again using a soldering iron - solder the other end to the IC board where the battery tray "fingers" used to make contact.

10) put the soldered battery tray in the empty shell and put 2x 2016 coin batteries in there (not 2020's) and snap it closed.

11) done -- looks great, works perfectly

for my year i had to take this product and remove the metal ba ttery tray liner and trim part of the plastic on the inside of this product so that I could get the original metal part to fit in this device that the batteries sit i
